Popjoy's Barber Shop

Allen Popjoy is the shop owner.  He has obtained all three licenses available from the PA State Board of Barber Examiners:  Barber, Barber-Manager, and Barber-Teacher.

Allen began his professional career as a French and English teacher, and then became a school counselor.  He has Bachelor and Masters degrees from West Chester University, and a second Masters degree from Villanova University.  He began giving haircuts in 1977 to family and friends and then eventually to students at Devon Prep School where he was a teacher.  After cutting hair for 25 years as a hobby he began barber school part-time at Capitol Barber School in 2003.  He finished his training at Givler's Barber Shop in Coatesville, after Capitol Barber School unexpectedly closed down.  He completed his training and has been a licensed barber since 2004.  After working at Givler's Barber Shop for 10 years, Allen opened Popjoy's Barber Shop in 2014.  The business has grown continually since then.

Having cut hair for men and boys for almost 50 years, Allen is experienced in all lengths and styles of men's haircuts.  He particularly enjoys doing the longer cuts that are back in fashion again for younger clients.

Allen is also a lifelong church musician, having served as organist and choir director for a number of area churches.  Curretly he is working as Director of Traditional Music Ministries and Organist at Hopewell United Methodist Church of Downingtown.  He is a member of First United Methodist Church of Lancaster, and serves as a substitute organist there as time permits.
